Matterport vs Zillow 3D Home: Which One Does Your South Florida Listing Need?

TL;DR

  • Zillow stopped showing Matterport tours on October 20, 2025, and its own site still says so.

  • If you want a 3D tour inside the Zillow listing, it has to come from Zillow 3D Home or another vendor Zillow accepts.

  • Zillow 3D Home is a free app, but someone has to walk the house taking panoramas with a phone or a 360 camera.

  • At SFVT, our photographer captures the Matterport tour with a 3D camera, and it still works on the MLS, your website, social media and portals like Realtor.com and Homes.com.

  • The useful question isn't which one is better. It's where the buyers for this home are looking.

On a Sunday afternoon an agent pulls up her listing on Zillow to text it to a buyer in Chicago. Photos, price, description. The 3D tour she paid for isn't there. It's on the MLS. It's on her website. On Zillow, nothing.

Her photographer didn't make a mistake. Zillow stopped showing Matterport tours in a dispute with the company that owns Matterport, and it's worth understanding before you book the next shoot.

What changed on Zillow

On October 20, 2025, Zillow pulled Matterport tours from Zillow.com and StreetEasy, Real Estate News reported. The two sides tell different stories. Zillow says CoStar, which owns Matterport, changed its terms in a way that puts Zillow at legal risk. CoStar says its terms haven't changed and the call was Zillow's alone.

For anyone selling a home, the fight matters less than the result. On its page What You Need to Know About Matterport Tours on Zillow, last updated in January 2026, Zillow says it doesn't show Matterport tours at this time, that it has repeatedly asked CoStar for clear, legally binding terms, and that it won't show them until it gets those terms. In May 2026 Matterport publicly asked Zillow to lift the ban. As of October 21, 2026, when this post went up, we found no announcement that it has.

Matterport also says Realtor.com and Homes.com do display its tours.

What each one is, in plain terms

Matterport builds a 3D model of the home from scans taken room by room. At SFVT our photographer captures it with a dedicated 3D camera during the shoot, and the buyer moves through it point by point.

Zillow 3D Home is a free app from Zillow. You or your photographer stand in the middle of each room, turn slowly with the phone to take a 360-degree panorama, and move on to the next room. Zillow stitches the shots into a tour. According to its FAQ, a 10 to 15 panorama tour takes up to four hours to process when shot handheld on a phone, and about 30 minutes with a compatible 360 camera.

Which one fits the listing

  • If your buyers shop on Zillow and you want 3D right there, the only route is Zillow 3D Home or another vendor Zillow accepts. A Matterport tour, however good, won't show up on that listing.

  • If the buyer lives in another state or another country, the link matters more than the portal. You can send the tour straight to them by text or email, and either one works there, whether or not it shows on Zillow.

  • If you'd rather not walk the house with your phone yourself, count the time. The app is free, but someone has to do the full walk with every light on, every door open and a panorama every few steps. Zillow recommends one every 8 to 10 feet, always in sight of the last one. The bigger the house, the longer the walk.

  • If it's a storefront or an office, Zillow 3D Home is off the table, because Zillow says its platform doesn't support commercial listings. For businesses we shoot commercial 360 tours starting at $400, with the packages on our commercial pricing page.

  • If you want to be everywhere, plenty of listings benefit from having both: Matterport for the MLS, your site, social media and the portals that show it, and Zillow 3D Home so the Zillow listing isn't left without a tour. You can book the Matterport with us and capture the Zillow 3D Home tour yourself with the free app the same day, while the house is still show-ready.

Four questions before you book

  1. Where is the most likely buyer for this home looking? Zillow, Realtor.com, the MLS, Instagram. That decides the tour.

  2. Who's going to walk the house? You with a phone, or a photographer with their gear.

  3. How long will it be on the market? A tour that expires after six months needs renewing if the sale runs long.

  4. What does Zillow say today? This could change. Check Zillow's Matterport page the day the listing goes live.

How we handle 3D at SFVT

We shoot Matterport tours: $150 added to a photo session or $200 on its own, with the link live for six months. If the listing needs more time, it's $45 for each additional six months. Whichever tour you choose, the house has to be ready before anyone walks it, and our listing prep checklist covers both. Our South Florida media guide shows what to book by type of property.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put a Matterport tour on my Zillow listing?

Not right now. Zillow hasn't shown Matterport tours since October 2025 and says it won't without clear terms from CoStar. The tour still works on the MLS, your site and other portals.

Is Zillow 3D Home really free?

The app is. Zillow doesn't charge to create a tour, publish it or host it. What it costs you is the time of whoever captures it and, if you want the interactive floor plan, a compatible 360 camera.

Do I need a 360 camera for Zillow 3D Home?

Not for the tour. You do for the interactive floor plan, which Zillow says can only be created with a compatible 360 camera.

Can I use my Zillow 3D Home tour outside Zillow?

Yes. Every tour comes with an unbranded link for the MLS and an embed code for other sites, and Zillow's terms let you use it wherever you market the home.

Can I upload panoramas from another camera into Zillow 3D Home?

No. Zillow only builds tours from photos captured and processed inside its app.

What should I use for a commercial property?

Not Zillow 3D Home, because Zillow says its platform doesn't support commercial listings. For businesses we shoot commercial 360 tours starting at $400; the packages are on our commercial pricing page.
